Miller Family - 2007

Elizabeth Diann Miller, known by family and friends as Liz, Lizzie and “The Liz” was born on April 18, 1983 in Pueblo, Colorado. She spent her early childhood in Saint Helena, California and grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado, where her parents live and work today.  Liz was a talented vocalist, and lead singer in a variety of choirs and worship team bands. She graduated from Fort Collins High School in 2001.

Liz was the first of four Miller kids born to parents, Jim and Suzanne, followed by Alex, Sarah and Ben.

With four kids born in four and a half years, from 1983 – 1987, Jim and Suzanne pretty much missed the 80s altogether, and lived with a lot of messes around the house.   But they are quick to say that it was the best time of their lives raising their family.

Liz trained and began working as a youth minister in 2004, joining the staff of churches in Colorado, Louisiana and Texas, serving middle and high school students. Her impact on the lives of young people is lasting.

Liz was diagnosed with Epilepsy as a twelve year old in 1995. The prescribed medications greatly reduced the grand mal seizures she experienced, but did not stop them all together. She embraced life, was confident and brave, and never let anything slow her down.

It was a seizure that ended Liz’s life on Friday, March 28th, 2008.  She was 24 years old.

Liz is survived her parents, Jim and Suzanne Miller, who still live in Fort Collins, and by Alex, Sarah and Ben, as well as relatives in Florida, Indiana, Georgia and Maryland, who actively share and promote Do A Liz Thing.

Liz was a vibrant, beautiful young woman with a big smile, booming laugh and a depth of character that will be remembered always by those who knew her.

Our Mission & How to Get Involved

What We Believe In

We believe she had it right... Liz Miller lived by the credo "make the world a better place", and it's truly what she did with her life. We strive to continue sharing Liz's positive light through simple acts of kindness.

What Kindness is To us

In general, kindness has no motive.  It seeks no return.  Its reward is in the execution of something selfless.  It makes us better people – more highly evolved.  Kindness is self-replicating.  A single act of kindness sends out shoots and continues to grow.  Like a ripple in a pond, the impact gets wider and wider and the effect of a single, simple act can’t be assessed this side of heaven.  Sophocles said that kindness begets kindness evermore, and that’s the power, isn’t it?  Liz knew that.  And we honor her and join in the work she started when we choose kind, as she did.

How to Get Involved

It's easy. Buy a cup of coffee for a stranger. Hold the door for the person behind you. Mow your neighbors lawn. Watch your neighbors kid when they run to the store. Make cupcakes and bring them to work. You get the idea...

The meaning of the gerberA Daisy

Gerbera daisies were Liz's favorite flower, however, the symbolism of the Gerbera Daisy goes beyond its cheerful, simple beauty. Throughout history, the message of the Gerbera Daisy suggests a more energized emotion than contentedness or mellowness. It brings happiness that bubbles, fizzes and pops with joyous surprises. There is an energetic playfulness to these flowers, which is evident in all their radiant colors. These are not flowers for regrets. These flowers are a celebration of life!
